Composer, pedagogue, organizer and long-time director of the Varaždin Baroque Evenings, Davor Bobić (1968) is undoubtedly one of the most influential musicians of contemporary Croatian musical life. Born in Varaždin, where he finished primary and secondary school, he graduated accordion, composition and musical theory at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev.

Immediately after finishing his studies, Davor Bobić started his teaching career at the Varaždin School of Music. He continues, his rich teaching career, afterwards at the Academy of Arts in Osijek, where he has been an assistant professor since 2003., associate professor since 2008., full professor since 2014. and full professor tenure since 2022. In 2009. he was appointed to the position of Vice Dean for science and art at the Academy of Arts in Osijek and since 2019. he is an adviser of the Dean.

With a series of organizational improvements, under his leadership or with his participation in the Academy of Arts and Culture, University of J.J. Strossmayer in Osijek, he increased the number of study programs (piano, composition, music theory, guitar,music therapy) and introduced a completely new one (tambourine study), while at the Varaždin School of Music, he will be remembered for starting first composition class for elementary and secondary school in the mid-90s.

During the time when he was the director of the Concert Office – from 1999 to 2007 – Varaždin had, like rarely in its history, a continuous musical season, and by coming to the head of the The Varaždin Baroque Evenings, in 2006, he changed the concept of the festival by reimagining it in accordance with contemporary considerations of early music. He was one of the initiators and the artistic director of the Osijek Concert Cycle in the period from 2012 to 2021.

Davor Bobić’s compositional opus is one of the most comprehensive, diverse the most performed in contemporary Croatian music. His opus includes instrumental, vocal, vocal-instrumental and musical-stage works. Some of his most voal-instrumental wokrs oratorios: King Tomislav, Izaija, Cantatas; Jericho and Amida and the Vukovar Requiem, and from the musical stage ballet with singing by Veronika Desinićka. He is also the author of film music and music for a number of theater plays.
